Kiev 19-21 February 2022.
Last days of normality for these people before Russia's entry into the Donbas.
Last days for a city that in less than a week would be overwhelmed by something unimaginable to us.
Life goes on quietly, like a classic weekend of good weather in which the frost for a moment has given way to more enjoyable temperatures.
But something in the air is strange. A sense of expectation. No one in Kyiv believes that the situation will be resolved peacefully.
Dry cold and sunshine. Around the twilight hour, on the last rays of sunlight that illuminate Maidan Square, her terror-filled gaze rests. Red hair and a black jacket. Ice eyes. She is trembling, freezing, afraid. She walks jerkily, away from the square, up Mykhailivs'ka Street, turns suddenly, intermittently, addressing all her dismay, not at the moment entirely justified, towards the place that is the symbol of Ukrainian independence.
On my way to the famous “model” suburb of Comfort town, in a space spared from intensive housing, the inhabitants have created an eternal resting place for their pets.
